SOLAS by Talitha MacKenzie

Former Mouth Music Vocalist Talitha MacKenzie's critically acclaimed debut solo album Solas was released on Riverboat Records (World Music network) in 1995. Produced by Chris Birkett & Iain McKinna, the album reached #3 in the World Music Charts in the USA and #12 in Europe. Iain McKinna was MD and Guitarist for the live band created to promote the album and they toured the UK, Canada, Europe including Womad, Womex, Milk Weg, Terschelling Festival, and many other venues.

When Talitha MacKenzie first approached Iain McKinna to produce tracks on the album, Iain told her she'd got the wrong guy, that he wasn't a folk/world music producer. Talitha said, "That's why I want you to do it."

Other tracks on the album were produced by Chris Birkett, whose production credits include Buffy St Marie & Steve Earle.

One Voice

WORLD MUSIC NETWORK

One Voice: Vocal Music from Around the World is a world music compilation album originally released in 1997. Part of the World Music Network Rough Guides series, the release features vocal music, ranging from Gregorian chants to Tuvan throat singing.

The compilation was produced by Phil Stanton, co-founder of the World Music Network. Liner notes were written by BBC broadcaster Andy Kershaw, known for his world music journalism. It was produced in partnership with New Internationalist magazine.

Roots, Reels & Rhythms

NASCENTE RECORDS

Released on Nascente Records, Roots, Reels & Rhythms is a very successful compilation album featuring a track by Talitha Mackenzie’s rendition of Funky Bird medley which was produced and co-arranged by Iain McKinna for the album Solas.

The track features Iain on Guitar, Keyboards by Mike Nolan, Percussion by Dave Haswell and vocals by Talitha MacKenzie.

Other artists on the album include Martin Bennet, Capercaillie, Mouth Music & The Tartan Ameobas.
