In the mid ’70s Iain began his audio journey by capturing the raw energy of Edinburgh’s punk scene at Edinburgh's Southside Studios. Bands like Freeze, Scars, Fire Engines, The Valves & TV21 cut their teeth on his recordings, while Iain mastered the art of DIY production. These experiences, coupled with work for legendary labels like Island Records, Virgin, and A&M, paved the way for Offbeat Recording Studio’s creation in 1994.

Kirsty, with her multifaceted background as a musician, studio manager, joined forces with Iain to shape Offbeat into a place where both professional polish and authentic artistry thrive. Today, it’s a trusted hub for audiobook publishers, self-published authors, and solo artists and songwriters seeking professional sound and creative guidance.

Operating from the top floor of a historic Edinburgh tenement, the studio has a vibe that’s hard to replicate—centuries of character and over 30 years of creative energy rolled into one.
