Voice Over Services
In our centrally located Edinburgh audio recording studio in the Royal Mile, Offbeat provide quality, professional voice over productions and recording services for television, film and multi-media companies. We also do sound to picture projects, film dubbing & audio-books.
Using Neumann U87, Sennheisser MKH 416, Coles 4050 Stereo Ribbon, AKG Valve microphones (along with Neve EQ and an arsenal of signal processing software and hardware), we achieve a naturally warm and un-coloured vocal sound for our customers through our Yamaha DM2000 mixing console using Metric Halo Convertors. We can receive and broadcast audio on ISDN, IPDTL & Source Connect Now.
Recently we recorded an interview with Ruby Wax as well as Podcasts for Radio 1 for Whistledown Productions. For comedy superstar Russell Howard, we recorded his commentary to picture for the series Travels With My Mum In The USA and more recently Travels in Asia for Avalon & Sky TV in conjunction with Comedy Central USA.
The Eyes Of Orson Welles at The Cannes Film Festival 2018
We recorded Mark Cousins Commentary for the movie and Jack Claff’s (voice of Orson Welles) here at the Offbeat Studio. The film’s executive producers included Mark Thomas and Michael Moore.
Earthrise – Ladakh’s Ice Stupas
… picked Up A Gold Medal award at the New York Festivals Best TV & Films. Offbeat recorded Russell Beards Commentary for the programme. We also recorded Russell’s Voice Over for Series 10 of Earthrise.
The Story Of Film – an Odyssey
Other voiceover recording projects we have had at the studio included The Story Of Film by Mark Cousins for More 4 and Film 4. 15 (x 1 hour) episodes later the film was released and achieved critical acclaim, including The Stanley Kubrick Award for best film in 2012 and a nomination for Best Documentary feature at Palm Springs awards in 2012.
The film has since been shown in Cinemas Worldwide and has been translated into many languages. The Telegraph headlined the film’s initial broadcast as a television series in September 2011 as the “cinematic event of the year”, describing it as “visually ensnaring and intellectually lithe, it’s at once a love letter to cinema, an unmissable masterclass, and a radical rewriting of movie history.”
Clients include BBC TV recording items for The One Show with celebrity chef Tony Singh and Sunday Morning Live with JJ Chalmers.
We recorded three seperate interviews with Mark Cousins for Turner Classic Films in the States.
From Bollywood to Holyrood! We dubbed voice audio on Malayalam Thriller Adam Joan with Director Jinu Abraham, starring Malayalam & Bollywood actor Prithvaraj. After casting many actors for the voice of the head of a Satanic cult for the film, the role fell to Offbeat producer Iain McKinna!
Other Voice Over Projects
We provided the voice artist and recorded the forthcoming 2017 Festival music programme for The Edinburgh International Festival.
We recorded an online education programme for BBC Bitesize and BBC Science & BBC History.
Voice Over specialists Excellent Voices recently used the studio for a series of TV ads for cosmetics company JML for their Max Lash range as well as an advert for Red Bull.
Neneh Cherry came in and recorded dialogue for the BBC production Stockholm My Love, directed by Mark Cousins.
Liz Lochhead recorded an interview here commissioned by Loftus Media for BBC Radio 4 earlier this year.
Also we recorded Scots poet Don Johnson for The New Yorker Magazine.
We also recorded Patrick Kielty for a BBC TV production called Patrick Kielty’s Mullholland Drive.
We completed an audio book for Australian company Bolinda.com. Author Kirsty Logan came into the studio to narrate her latest fantasy adventure novel The Gracekeepers. We also recorded parts for an audio book with New Yorker Megan Tusing for Harper Audio (Harper Collins)
We recorded Alan Little’s voice for a Loftus Media production for BBC Radio 4. Also in the studio was Pamela Stephenson Connolly recording parts for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe dance hit show Brazouka.
Another client, producer Alan Knight came onto the studio with Hollywood actor Brian Cox to record the voice of animated Scotty dog, Duggy The Dug for a pro Independence video called London Calling.
The innovative company CereProc have developed the world’s most advanced text to speech technology. Their voices not only sound real, they have character, making them suitable for any application that requires speech output.
In 2013 we recorded three episodes of Neil Oliver’s Voice over for Coast Australia for Great Southern Film & TV which was aired on The History Channel.
Gavin Hastings also came in to record for a voice over for HSBC bank.
Scottish Life, Royal London and Aegon also recorded voice over audio projects here for their in-house multi-media training programmes.
We had the great pleasure of recording a voice over and editing a series of audio meditation CDs for Dr Avinash Bansode (pictured left) for Mindfully Being UK. Avinash has a background in medicine and has been practising mindfulness meditation since 1992. He is also an ordained Buddhist with interests in mind-body integrative medicine and the holistic approach towards health and wellbeing
We recorded audio commentaries with a voice over for the The Heritage Detectives set of programmes for Maggie Aitken of Daisy Chain Associates, which were performed at The Scottish Parliament and Heritage Scotland. These featured Ronnie Brown from The Corries and several children who were involved in the events.
