FAQ 2 DO I NEED A PRODUCER AND CAN I USE OFFBEAT IF I DON'T?

As well as steering a recording session along an agreed path, and acting as an arbiter between everyone involved in a session, a producer takes responsibility for making sure the recording stands out across all broadcast and playback mediums.

The producer makes income from broadcast and sales of music and their name becomes associated with the recording, and knowing it will be subjected to professional criticism through media etc, it's in their interests to make sure the recording is as good as possible. This is not generally the case with sound engineers who are not responsible for the artistic outcome of a recording.

Working within a budget and scheduling recording sessions are also the responsibility of a Producer.

You may want to produce your music yourself and of course, this can also be done with our full help and support here at Offbeat.
